Walking & Talking
Walk conducted by Joanna Erbel and Lena von Seggern in a company of a chapter from a book "Sidewalk" by Mitch Duneier
In his study "Sidewalk", Mitch Duneier tells the story of homeless street vendors on New York City's sixth avnue. Looking at their lives with a magnifying glass, he discovers order and social control inside their small "community".
How do homeless people become entrepreneurs? How do they organize their life around an underground station? And how are African-Americans in New York comparable to the inhabitants and ramblers of Kottbusser Tor? Can Kottbusser Tor achieve the status of an American Ghetto? These are the questions that might come up when reading an extract of "Sidewalk" and walking around Kotti.
